First Look: Klättermusen Loke

Dear aficionado of all things made of down, please take a seat, strap yourself in, I'll bring you the ultimate temptation. Ready? Here we go, the Klättermusen Loke:

Weights 428 g in Size S, of which are 95 g 750+ white goose down. Fabric and lining from recycled polyamide with a PFOA free impregnation. Its super warm, packs into its inside pocket, and the tunnel pocket in the front is very useful. The elastic bands at the hems keep the warmth inside, the hood is comfy and keeps your head warm. I'm planning to combine it with the GoLite Ultra 20° to push the quilt into the minus degrees, and keep me warm at camp after walking. Initial review after I spent some days and nights on the trail with it.

  1. I am expecting a comparison report with the Rab, Nahanny jackets. will they all work with the Golite quilt?

  2. You now have piles of downy loveliness Hendrik, you look well prepared for the Finish winter!

  3. The winter is coming but looking at the photos there is a fine Autumn colour show in the woods going on. Nice Jacket by the way.

  4. Roger, will do. Microlite works fine with the quilt, Nahanny haven't tried yet. The Loke is a good solution because of the hood - something the other two vest lack.

James, one can't be well prepared enough =)

Martin, its a shame that Joe didn't make it here (his passport didn't arrive in time) because I was hoping to showing him this kind of fine autumn colours in the Finnish woods!

  6. Its slightly heavier than the Liv, which a lot of people have (138 g heavier, to be exact). But I needed a hood for sleeping under the Ultra 20° and this one has a down hood, so its perfect for my needs. Its so comfy and warm that I have been wearing it in the city in the last few days!

  8. It looks like a fantastic piece of clothing for below freezing and dry conditions. But a down insulation piece? Is that really optimal in wet conditions like scandinavia for example? ISnt syntetic filling the way to go? Confused.

    Great site

  9. Hei there, thanks for your comment! I used it in the rain (bicycling and walking), and as it has a great DWR treatment. Water doesn't go in. If backpacking I wouldn't be wearing it in the rain - got an eVent jacket for that - so it wouldn't get wet. When walking I am warm enough, so don't need the extra insulation. In camp I would be under a shelter mostly, so there would be no problems. And even when jumping through the rain, for example to go to the WC, the DWR treatment of the Loke would keep it dry. In my opinion, in Scandinavia you can use down garments without worries if you use them when you really need them.

  10. Hendrik,

Great stuff on here. Definitely grew some interest in Klattermusen after a friend put me on a little bit ago. I was just wondering, as I'm a U.S. consumer and this stuff isn't sold domestically, how does the sizing run? I'm interested in both the Liv and Loke. How tall are you (as you said that the Loke you have is a Size S)?

    Thanks.

  11. Hi Geng, I am 175 cm tall, and am about 65 kg light. Klättermusen makes topnotch products, you won't be disappointed with either of your choices!

  12. Hello Hendrik,
this piece really looks (and sounds) just great.
But tell me - have you tried Klättermusen's Hild syntetic jacket? What's your opinion on that one (or - comparison with Loke)?

  13. Hendrik,
How would you classify the sleeve length on the Loke: average, longer than average, or shorter than average?

  14. Zach, I'd say they are a tiny tad longer than average. I can get my palms inside them to keep them warm.
