Hiking in Finland

Climbing, bikepacking, skiing & packrafting in the north

Pieni Karhunkierros Trip Report

In April we went on a trip to the north, and besides day trips in and around the village of Ruka we went to the Oulanka National Park. Underneath is a collection of photos from the visit to Kiutaköngäs falls and of our day trip on the 12 km long Pieni Karhunkierros.

Myllykoski cabin, on the Pieni Karhunkierros.

The beginning of Kiutaköngäs falls.

Apparently on Germans and Finns would go fishing here ("Fishing Forbidden" the sign says).

Hendrik at the falls.

And the end of the falls.

Bay at the end of the falls, where there's also a camping place.

Starting the Pieni Karhunkierros in Juuma.

Jyrävä rapids.

Day trip hut at Jyrävä.

Many hanging bridges on the trail make for fun experiences - or scary if you suffer from vertigo.

Snow was on the decline at some spots already.

View from Kallioportti, after an exhausting climb.

The high swamp area.

More rivers to cross.

It were two fun trips, and there was much beautiful nature to be seen. Winter is a beautiful time of the year, if you have enough food & tea as well as warm clothes!
